Shed: Coordinator at the Henley Mens Shed
Employed as Shed Coordinator at the Henley Mens Shed since the Shed opened on 22nd June 2009. The Shed has a membership currently of 119 and is steadily growing.
Background a Fitter & Turner by trade John has extensive experience in maintenance and diagnostic engineering, coupled with a number of years involved in Industrial law, marketing and sales, and management roles in wood products remanufacturing. John is also qualified in Safety Management Systems a major part of his present role in the Henley Mens Shed.
Shed activity has been developed on a number of fronts ranging from Men’s health sessions on such as Prostate, Diabetes, Oral care, Heart conditions, Hearing loss. Tutorials are run on Arc welding, Plant propagating, Spray painting, Wood turning, Router table, Cooking and Baking, Taps seats & washers. Shed user’s complete individual projects and fundraiser items as well as enjoy the fellowship of Men and the opportunity to chat over a cuppa, or the latest offering from their pizza oven.
The foundation for a National body has been created from the 2012 conference to support the
development of Men’s Sheds across New Zealand through the provision of advocacy and being the vehicle for the sharing of resources that encourages communities to create their own Shed styled around the Men in that community. John was elected to the “Support Services” position on the national executive and his particular interests are to support the development of Men’s health promotions in participating Sheds, and Safety within the Shed.
While John now lives in the Wairarapa, he still supports the Crusaders.
