About us

We have 44 members, and in 2013 we had outgrown our premises. It was a big project to fit-out our new premises, about 100 metres away. The starting point was an elderly building on the Taieri Airfield, essentially a concrete shell. Months of effort went into re-wiring, insulation, a new ceiling, partitioning and painting.

Moving all the equipment and materials was substantial. We are proud of the result and now have a spacious, brighter and safer working environment.

The building is partitioned giving a main workshop, carpentry room, electrical and art room, engineering workshop, woodturning room, quartermasters room, paint-shop, tea room/office/kitchen and toilets.

Additionally we have a steel container, used by engineering members for welding, grinding or other activities likely to be a fire hazard; and an external timber store.

Taieri Shed operating days are Saturday and Wednesday from 9am to noon. Members may use the shed at other times providing two or more are present if machinery is used.

On average, 25 members attend when the shed is open. The annual subscription is $10 and members pay $1 into a social fund for tea and biscuits.

Socially we have a mid-winter dinner which is well attended by members and wives, and we recently had a day outing with wives traveling by bus and visiting various engineering businesses, and finishing with a dinner at an hotel.

We had a “men-only” bus trip to the air museum at Mandeville, a visit to a museum in Gore and lunch at the Gore RSA.
