Welcome to Porirua MenzShed:
Porirua MenzShed is a welcoming community workshop where people come together to share skills, work on rewarding projects, enjoy good company, and support one another.

While our members are predominantly retired men, we welcome men and women from all walks of life who enjoy practical activities, learning new skills, and contributing to the community.

About Porirua MenzShed:
The ethos of MenzShed is simple: provide a place where people can meet, have a chat, share knowledge and experience, and work together on projects for themselves and others.

For many members, the friendships and social connections formed at the Shed are just as important as the projects themselves. This sense of belonging can be especially valuable for those who have recently retired or whose personal and professional networks have changed.

Since securing a lease on former hospital buildings in the grounds of Porirua Hospital in 2019, the Shed has grown steadily through the support of members, volunteers, community organisations, funding agencies, and local donors.

Community, Wellbeing and Facilities:
Today, our members undertake a wide range of projects that benefit local schools, kindergartens, community groups, councils, conservation organisations, and individual members.

Porirua MenzShed is an Incorporated Society with charitable status and is affiliated with MenzShed New Zealand. Managed by a volunteer committee and supported by more than 75 members, the Shed continues to provide opportunities for learning, creativity, friendship, wellbeing, and community service throughout the Porirua region.

Beyond practical activities, the Shed also promotes health and wellbeing by providing a relaxed environment where members can connect, support one another, and access information from visiting health professionals and community organisations.

Our facilities include dedicated areas for woodworking, wood turning, furniture restoration, metalwork, welding, lathe work, laser engraving, craft activities, and quiet recreation. We also maintain garden areas where produce is grown and donated to the community.

Membership:
New members are welcome. Come in during opening hours for a cup of tea, a chat, and a look around.
